Messi Deserves To Win An Eight Ballon D’Or For his Incredible Performance At The 2022 World Cup

Despite a challenging 2022-23 season with Inter Miami, their standout star should be recognized for his continued excellence and rightly deserves to win an eighth Ballon d’Or, setting a new record.

During the 2022 World Cup, Messi scored seven goals, just one less than the Golden Boot winner, Kylian Mbappe. Messi also tied for the most assists (three) and key passes (21), and had more shots on target (13) than any other player.

Messi, who has played for PSG and Barcelona, made history as the first player to score in every round of a single World Cup tournament, from the group stage to the final. He also received the most man of the match awards (five) in the tournament.

At the end of the competition in Qatar, Messi was awarded the Golden Ball, recognising him as the best player of the tournament. This made Messi the only player to have won this prestigious award twice, with his first win coming at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The Albiceleste faced a tough opponent, the Netherlands, in the quarter-finals. However, they stepped up their performance and played exceptionally well. Messi made a superb pass to Nahuel Molina, who scored and gave Argentina the lead just before halftime. Messi then scored a penalty to increase their score. However, the Dutch fought back with two brilliant goals from Wout Weghorst, leading to a penalty shootout.

Argentina gathered themselves and managed to defeat the Netherlands in the shootout. Messi impressively converted a penalty from 12 yards for the second time in the match, showcasing his composure under pressure.

Messi’s incredible performances during his 21-year career at Barcelona resulted in him winning seven Ballon d’Or awards, as well as numerous La Liga and Champions League titles. However, some people still had doubts about whether he deserved the title of the greatest player of all time due to his struggles in the World Cup.

All of those doubts were completely wiped away during the 2022 tournament when Messi led Argentina to victory in the Middle East. Under the guidance of manager Lionel Scaloni, Argentina had an exceptional team that included talented players such as Angel Di Maria, Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernandez, Cristian Romero, and the flashy goalkeeper Emi Martinez. These players played crucial roles in their triumph.
