In a recent statement, Garba Shehu, the former senior special assistant on media and publicity to immediate past president Muhammadu Buhari, dismissed rumors that Buhari had requested his successor, President Bola Tinubu, not to investigate certain officials from his administration. Shehu emphasized that only Buhari and Tinubu were present during their meeting in London, England, and it would have been impossible to accurately report the details of their conversation. He reiterated that Buhari’s intention was to avoid the spotlight and had relocated to Daura, Katsina State, seeking tranquility. However, he expressed regret that his hometown did not provide the desired peaceful environment, prompting Buhari to travel abroad.

The statement pleaded for Buhari to be allowed to rest and for the Tinubu administration to have a conducive atmosphere to carry out its work. Shehu further added that Buhari wished to remain out of the public eye to avoid distracting the new administration.

The statement, titled “What Buhari Didn’t Say to President Tinubu,” debunked the claim that Buhari had asked Tinubu to refrain from investigating former officials of his government. Shehu emphasized that the alleged request was baseless and urged the public not to give it any attention or publicity.

Shehu concluded by affirming Buhari’s desire for much-needed rest and his hope that the Tinubu administration would work towards fulfilling the promises made to the Nigerian people.
