Daytime sleepiness is very common and sometimes encouraged especially for people who stay awake mostly at night. But then some people also get enough sleep at night and still sleep excessively during the day, studies have shown that it comes with some potential problems with the heart and some other parts of the body.

According to studies, it has been shown that sleeping in the afternoon could either raise risk of heart diseases or not depending on how often you sleep during the day.

Researchers conducted a study that includes more than 307,000 people. The result of the research proved that people who slept for less than 40 minutes during the day had less risk of metabolic syndrome, as a matter of fact, those who slept for less than 30 minutes during the day had a slightly reduced risk of developing any metabolic syndrome

But there was a sharp rise in risk of heart related diseases in people who slept for more than 40 to 90 minutes during the day. So sleeping in the afternoon or during the day for so long can affect the heart and even the blood sugar level in turn. If you don’t often get enough sleep at night, then it is considerable but people who sleep well at night and still sleep alot during the day, may be putting themselves at risk of heart issues, Diabetes and other diseases categorised under metabolic syndrome.
